Parks & Beaches & Zoos

Bell County has two large lakes, Belton Lake, and Stillhouse Hollow Lake, both of which have several large parks, both county and state, including the Iron Bridge Wildlife Management Area, White Flint Park, Owl Creek Park, McGregor Park, Miller Spring Park, and Stillhouse Park. Boating, fishing, and sunning are all available on the water, and there are many local small parks, especially in Killeen.

The Cameron Park Zoo, in Waco, is one of the largest in Texas, and features many exotic animals, including lions, lemurs, and a large reptile house, and some more domestic, Texan animals. The zoo has a children's zoo section, and regularly changing events.

Austin has two public gardens, the Zilker Botanical Garden, with a variety of plant life, including a cactus garden, Oriental garden, herb and fragrance garden, butterfly garden, and a recreation prehistoric garden with the closest equivalents to plants of about a hundred million years ago, and a dinosaur garden ornament. The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is much more focused on wildflowers and some unusual garden art, including giant dragonflies.
